Swedish Fashion Goes New York step one completed, next event at FIT November 13th

Förbereder oss för svenskt modeseminarium på Fashion Institute of Technology den 13 november, Swedish Fashion – H&M, Acne and Much More. Ingrid Giertz-Mårtenson är moderator tillsammans med värden Valerie Steele, en av världens främsta designhistoriker och direktör vid FIT. I panelen finns Margareta van den Bosch från H&M; Mikael Schiller från Acne Studios, Lena Patriksson-Keller från ASFB och så hoppas vi även på Ulrika Berglund från Modevetenskapen. Beskrivning nedan. This seminar will introduce Sweden as a country of fashion. In an informal panel discussion on current tendencies several questions will be addressed such as: What is unique about Swedish Fashion? How has it developed;, how much is the fashion scene a reflection of the societal and democratic changes in 20th century Sweden up until now? How does the world look upon Swedish fashion? Which Swedish brands are known in New York and on the American U.S. market? What are the Ssimilarities  and differences between Swedish fashion and for example  Danish fashion? Is it relevant to discuss nationality related to fashion in today’s global market and multicultural society.? Dr. Valerie Steele, director and curator of the Museum at FIT, will discuss the idea and philosophy  behind different Swedish brands with designers, representatives and academics from the Swedish fashion scene. Panelists include Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor H&M, Mikael Schiller, Executive Chairman ACNE Studios, Lena Patriksson Keller, Chairman of the Association of Swedish Fashion Brands, founder and CEO of Patriksson Communication a leading Scandinavian PR company, specializing in Fashion and Lifestyle, founder and CEO of Patriksson Communication a leading Scandinavian PR company, specializing in Fashion and Lifestyle and co-founder of Swedish fFashion brand Whyred, as well as. 

Moderator is: Ingrid Giertz-Mårtenson, initiator of the Centre for Fashion Studies at Stockholm University and Senior Advisor at the Centre for Business History in , Stockholm. As In her role as CEO of the Swedish Fashion Council for many years, she has curated several exhibitions investigating Swedish fashion. Her current research concerns different areas of the international fashion industry, as well as questions regarding national identity and dress.Her current research concerns different areas of the international fashion industry as well as questions regarding fashion and national identity 
The seminar is a collaboration between the Museum at FIT, Svensk Form (The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design), and the Swedish Institutepart of Swedish Fashion Goes New York, an event series presenting and sharing the diversity of Swedish fashion. The series start in September with two-day seminar Designboost, as well as activities in connection with Capsule New York. .  Under the umbrella “Swedish Fashion Goes New York” in September of 2012, several events are arranged supported by the Swedish Institute, Svensk Form and the Swedish Consulate in New York: Designboost: Design Intelligence, a two-day seminar on fashion and sustainable development on September 18-19 at Parsons School of Design. Several Swedish fashion brands are participating at the Capsule New York, and in a Nordic joint venture at the New Museum on September 17th, such as Patouf, Stylein, Jenny Grettve, Alexander Stutterheim, and AltewaiSamoe.It is collaboration between the Swedish Institute, Svensk Form (the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design) and the Consulate General of Sweden in New York. Modeevenemanget Design Intelligence;FASHION inleds den 18 september, på Parsons the New School for Design i New York. Handels-minister Ewa Björling inviger den första dagen där 100 speciellt inbjuda svenska och amerikanska deltagare från modebranschen tillsammans kommer att diskutera frågor som t.ex. hur modeindustrin kan ta ansvar, bidra till förändring, ta hållbarhetsutvecklingen ett steg vidare, ändra reglerna, ändra konsumtionsvanor samt kunna kommunicera hållbart mode med konsumenter, marknaden och anställda.
